Fallingwater

This post was long overdue. It took me a long time to edit the photos because every time I did I just wasn't happy with the way they turned out. I'm still not completely happy but that happens.

On August 22, Rosendo and I decided to take a trip to Pennsylvania to see Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater home he designed for the Kaufmann's (you know, the department store). You aren't allowed to take pictures inside, so hopefully this post makes you plan your own trip, because the inside is just as stunning as the outside. The house is only a few hours from NE Ohio, and made for a great day trip.

One of the most stunning aspects of the experience, for me, was the fact that the house was built way before it's time. The entire tour I felt like I was time machined back into the 70s, but the house was actually built in the late 30s. After seeing this house I am making it my mission to see more Frank Lloyd Wright homes. If you're ever in the Pittsburgh area, you need to make the trip!

Mexico City Pt. 5

Sunday, December 15, 2013: My last day in Mexico City was an emotional one. I was really sad that I had one final day in the city. There was still so much I hadn't seen. That morning I wanted to eat at a restaurant, but it was closed. So I walked and walked to find somewhere else to eat, but nothing was catching my attention. Finally, I decided to get coffee and a donut at El Globo. El Globo would be considered the Dunkin Donuts or the Buskin of Mexico. I actually consider more of a Buskin, but I don't think many people outside of Cincinnati know what it is. That's the best way I can describe it because it's a chain, but very Mexican at the same time.

(afternoon): I decided to head back to Bosque de Chapultepec one last time to take any last minute pictures and say good-bye to Luis. I went and saw Luis, and afterwards I decided to sit on this wall and just write in my journal to pass the time. There were so many people in the park because it was Sunday! Finally, I decided to go back into the forest part, and I sat on a bench. As I was sitting down this guy comes up to me and starts talking to me. Honestly, I had no idea what he was saying. He told me his name was Luis Alberto something, and he couldn't believe my last name was Albert because he has never known a girl to have that name. I kept trying to tell him that in America that was my family name, but he didn't get it. He kept talking about some kind of competition and having strong legs. I have no idea. Then he asked if I had a boyfriend. I told him "yes" because I didn't want him to try to ask me out. He asked if my boyfriend was a "gringo!" I thought it was hilarious. Eventually, I had to tell him I needed to go because I didn't feel like talking to him any more. Plus, I did have to go.

(evening): That evening I met Pako at a place called Péndulo. Before I met him I decided that I NEEDED to take pictures of the houses since it was my last day. I was always afraid to take out my camera, but I figured at this point it was now or never. Next time I go back I am going to take more because they colors and architecture were beautiful. I walked for about 30 minutes, and got lost. I had to talk to a police man about where Péndulo was and luckily I had just passed it. I was afraid I walked way out of the way. Again, Google maps is great as a map, but not so much for directions. Péndulo was the coolest place ever! It was a coffee shop, bar, and book store all in one. I could have spent hours there. We walked to the top and got drinks and dessert. We talked for a long time. Afterwards, we walked back to my hostel, and I said good-bye. Then I went up to my room and talked to the two roommates for a bit, then I went to sleep.

I had an amazing time in Mexico City. I would go back in a heart beat, and I'm actually planning to go back sometime this summer depending on what happens with my school schedule. It's sad that Mexico gets such a bad rap in America because it's not like that at all. Of course, like any country, there are dangers, but I actually felt safer in Mexico City than I did Cincinnati or Cleveland. If an opportunity ever arises to visit Mexico City then take it, especially if you want an European experience without the cost.
